Litany of St Anne

Murillo painting of Saint Anne teaching her daughter, the young Virgin Mary, to read, with cherubs above.
Saint Anne Teaching the Virgin to Read, Bartolome Esteban Murillo (c. 1655). Public domain.

St Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Our Lord, is invoked for mothers, for families, for those longing for a child, and for healing. This litany honors her and asks her powerful intercession.

The Litany

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

The response to each invocation is: pray for us.

St Anne, mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
St Anne, mother of the Mother of God,
St Anne, grandmother of our Savior,
St Anne, faithful spouse of St Joachim,
St Anne, mirror of obedience,
St Anne, model of wives,
St Anne, model of mothers,
St Anne, glory of mothers,
St Anne, teacher of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
St Anne, comfort of the married,
St Anne, hope of the childless,
St Anne, helper of all who call upon you,
St Anne, health of the sick,
St Anne, refuge of sinners,
St Anne, comforter of the afflicted,
St Anne, help of Christians,
St Anne, patroness of a happy death,

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, spare us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, graciously hear us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Pray for us, O blessed St Anne,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
