About Our Lady of Mount Carmel
The Carmelite Order traces its origins to hermits who gathered to pray on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, in the spirit of the prophet Elijah. According to tradition, Our Lady appeared to Saint Simon Stock on July 16, 1251, giving him the Brown Scapular as a sign of her protection and maternal care for those consecrated to her. The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is kept on July 16.
