The Sign of the Cross is the simplest and most ancient of Catholic prayers. With it we begin and end our prayer, marking ourselves as belonging to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Prayer
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
When to Pray This Prayer
At the beginning and end of every prayer, on entering a church, and at many moments of the day. It is traced with the right hand from forehead to breast, then left shoulder to right.
About This Prayer
The Sign of the Cross professes the central mysteries of the faith, the Holy Trinity and the Cross of Christ, in a single gesture. Christians have used it since the earliest centuries.
