To pray for a happy death is to ask for the greatest grace of all: to leave this world in the friendship of God, our sins forgiven, the sacraments received, and the holy names of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph on our lips.
The Prayer
O Lord my God,
even now I accept at your hand,
with a quiet and trusting heart,
whatever kind of death may come to me,
with all its pains, penalties, and sorrows.
Grant that I may die in your grace,
strengthened by the sacraments of your Church,
with a true sorrow for my sins,
and with the holy names of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph upon my lips.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,
I give you my heart and my soul.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,
assist me in my last agony.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,
may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you. Amen.
When to Pray This Prayer
As a regular prayer for the grace of final perseverance, on the feast of St Joseph, patron of a happy death, and at the bedside of the dying.
