Saint Gemma Galgani, the young mystic of Lucca who bore the wounds of Christ, is a tender intercessor for those in distress and for anyone who seeks a special grace. This prayer, long attributed to her devotion, asks her to bring our needs to Jesus, her Spouse.
Prayer to Saint Gemma Galgani
O Saint Gemma, how compassionate was your love for those in distress, and how great your desire to help them. Help me also in my present need, and obtain for me the favour I humbly implore, if it be profitable for my soul (mention your request).
The many miracles and wonderful favours obtained through your intercession fill me with confidence that you can help me. Pray to Jesus, your Spouse, for me. Show him the wounds which his love gave you; remind him of the Blood that flowed from them and the tears you shed for the salvation of souls. Place all this, as a precious treasure, in the chalice of his love, and Jesus will hear you. Saint Gemma, pray for us. Amen.
About Saint Gemma Galgani
Saint Gemma Galgani (1878–1903) was an Italian laywoman of Lucca who, despite poverty, illness, and the loss of her parents, lived a life of intense prayer and union with the suffering Christ. From 1899 she received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ, which would appear on Thursday evenings and remain into Friday. She died at the age of twenty-five and was canonized in 1940. She is a patron of students, pharmacists, and those who suffer.
