The Stations of the Cross, or the Way of the Cross, walk with Jesus along the road to Calvary. At each of the fourteen stations we pause to remember a moment of his Passion, praying with him in love and sorrow.
How to Pray the Stations
At each station, genuflect and pray:
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
Because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.
The Fourteen Stations
1. Jesus is condemned to death.
2. Jesus takes up his Cross.
3. Jesus falls the first time.
4. Jesus meets his sorrowful Mother.
5. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry the Cross.
6. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.
7. Jesus falls the second time.
8. Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem.
9. Jesus falls the third time.
10. Jesus is stripped of his garments.
11. Jesus is nailed to the Cross.
12. Jesus dies on the Cross.
13. Jesus is taken down from the Cross.
14. Jesus is laid in the tomb.
At each station, pause to meditate on the mystery, and pray an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be. Many close the Way of the Cross by meditating on the Resurrection, and by praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.
When to Pray This Prayer
On the Fridays of Lent, on Good Friday, and any time you wish to walk the way of the Passion with Christ.
About This Prayer
Born from the desire of pilgrims to walk where Christ walked in Jerusalem, the Stations were spread throughout the Church especially by the Franciscans. They lead us, step by step, into the love of the Cross.
