When life grows heavy and the way ahead is dark, we bring our trouble to God, who is near to the brokenhearted. This prayer asks for his help, his light, and the grace to trust him through the storm.
The Prayer
Lord God,
you are my refuge and my strength,
a very present help in trouble.
I come to you in this difficult time,
when my heart is heavy and I do not know the way.
Be near to me;
lift the burden I cannot carry alone,
and give me light for the next step.
Help me to trust that you are with me,
that you will never leave me nor forsake me,
and that you can bring good even out of this.
Into your hands I place all that troubles me,
and all those I love.
Give me your peace,
which the world cannot give,
and carry me through. Amen.
You may add: Jesus, I trust in you.
When to Pray This Prayer
In any time of trial, loss, fear, or hardship, and whenever you do not know which way to turn.
About This Prayer
Scripture calls God a refuge and strength, a help in trouble, and near to the brokenhearted. Bringing our difficulties to him in trust is itself an act of faith that he hears and acts.
