Saint Gabriel, “the strength of God,” is the archangel who announced to the Virgin Mary that she would be the Mother of the Saviour. Honoured as the angel of the Incarnation and patron of messengers and communication, he is invoked for good news, for strength of faith, and for openness to God’s word. This prayer asks his intercession.
Prayer to Saint Gabriel the Archangel
O blessed Archangel Gabriel, we beseech you to intercede for us at the throne of divine mercy in our present necessities, that as you announced to Mary the mystery of the Incarnation, so through your prayers and patronage in heaven we may obtain the benefits of the same, and sing the praise of God forever in the land of the living.
Blessed Saint Gabriel, obtain for us strength of faith and courage of spirit, that we may say “yes” to God as Mary did, and find favour with him. We entrust to you especially (mention your request). Saint Gabriel, messenger of the Good News, pray for us. Amen.
About Saint Gabriel
Saint Gabriel appears in the Scriptures as God’s messenger: he interprets Daniel’s visions, foretells the birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah, and, above all, announces to Mary at the Annunciation that she will bear the Son of God (Luke 1). Venerated as the patron of messengers and of communications, he is honoured with Saints Michael and Raphael on their feast, September 29.
