Saint Raphael, whose name means “God heals,” is the archangel who guided and protected young Tobias and brought healing to his family in the Book of Tobit. He is invoked as patron of the sick, of travellers, of happy meetings, and of those seeking a holy spouse. This prayer asks his powerful protection and healing.
Prayer to Saint Raphael the Archangel
Glorious Archangel Saint Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, illustrious by your gifts of wisdom and grace, guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners: I beg you, assist me in all my needs and in all the trials of this life, as once you assisted the young Tobias on his travels.
Because you are the “medicine of God,” I humbly pray you to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body, if it be for God’s glory. I ask especially for the favour (mention your request), and the grace of purity, to prepare me to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. Saint Raphael, angel of health and happy meetings, pray for us. Amen.
About Saint Raphael
Saint Raphael is one of the seven archangels who “stand before the throne of God” (Tobit 12:15). In the Book of Tobit he journeys with Tobias, drives away the evil that afflicted Sarah, and restores the sight of the elder Tobit — then reveals himself as an angel of the Lord. He is honoured with Saints Michael and Gabriel on their feast day, September 29.
