St Christopher, who according to tradition carried the Christ Child across a river, is the beloved patron of travelers. This prayer asks his protection for every journey.

The Prayer

Dear St Christopher,
you carried the Christ Child across the raging waters,
and bore upon your shoulders the weight of the world's Redeemer.
Protect all who travel by land, by air, and by sea.
Grant me a safe journey and a safe return,
and keep me and all whom I love from every danger of the road.
Guide my steps and my heart,
that wherever I go, I may carry Christ with me,
and come at last to my true home with God. Amen.

A Short Prayer Before a Journey

Grant, O Lord, a safe journey and a peaceful return,
and let your holy angels go with me on the way. Amen.

When to Pray This Prayer

Before any journey, on his feast (July 25), and whenever you set out on the road.
